Celebrant

Hello, I'm Marian.

Retired nurse, B&B host in the Ironbridge Gorge, and now a celebrant. I write and lead ceremonies across Shropshire, and I count myself lucky to do it.

Before ceremonies, there was nursing

I spent my working life as a nurse: coronary care, then intensive care, and finally a nursing home. Nursing puts you beside people on their biggest days, the joyful ones and the hardest ones, and it teaches you things no script ever could. How to really listen. How to stay calm when a room cannot. When to speak, and when to simply hold someone's hand and say nothing at all.

It also teaches you to keep a straight face at the right moments and laugh at the right ones, which turns out to be excellent training for weddings.

That is what I bring to every ceremony: a nurse's steadiness, a warm heart, and a sense of humour. It is why I can lead a wedding full of laughter one day and a funeral full of love the next, and give each one exactly what it needs.

Life at The Woodlands

We run The Woodlands, a B&B in the Ironbridge Gorge, so making people feel welcome is quite literally my day job. The kettle is always on, and I have learned that most good conversations begin with somebody being sat down and properly listened to. Writing your ceremony starts exactly the same way.

Everyone is welcome here

I happily conduct ceremonies for the LGBTQ+ community. Every couple and every family is welcome, and every ceremony is written to sound like the people it belongs to.

Certified, and still learning

I trained with The Celebrant Circle in late 2024 and hold their CC Certified Celebrant accreditation. I am also a member of their inner circle, which brings ongoing training and support: the day I stop learning how to do this better is the day I should stop doing it.

I will be honest with you

I qualified in late 2024, so you will not find a wall of reviews here yet. What you will find is a celebrant building her reputation one ceremony at a time, which means yours gets all the care, time and attention I have.

Thank you Marian, it was perfect, couldn't thank you enough xx
